Hi everyone! My wife and I are very new to dirt bike riding. Sadly enough, our only experience on riding is @ my parent's backyard (heheheh going around in circles). We are hoping to find a beginner trail for us to develop our riding skills. A basic and most importantly, legal to ride trail will be perfect for us to practice.

If you guys can point us to the right direction, then we really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi Mark,
Depending on where you live Vedder Mt. on the way to Cultus Lake is a great area to start out. There are many trails (Expert, Novice, Beginner) and a long easy logging road that keeps going on and on. The big thing when starting out is of course to have ALL your riding gear and remember trail etiquette..stay to the right and watch those blind corners.
Here is a link to a helpul site for riding areas and directions.

Welcome to the sport and have fun!

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the info! Yes, definitely, we are big on safety so we wouldn't dare ride without our gear. I already came across that site (davenorona) and already read some information about the trails. Believe me, I already spent hours and hours really trying to get information about where we are going to ride, and Vedder Mt. is the one that we are going to try. We live in Surrey so it shouldn't be that far. I have one question though, you mentioned the long and easy logging roads...... That's what we like on our first ride, straight open gravel road. Do you mind giving us directions on how to get there? Where to park? Because so far, my plan is, to drive up Hwy #1, take the exit to Cultus lake, then take Parameter Rd, then park when the road forks up ahead on the gravel area, and from there ride our bikes. Are we gonna have to go to difficult trails before we can get to the logging roads?

Anyway, Thanks again! Now we are really excited in going for a ride.

When you hit the fork you will see signs to the left (on trees) and you will know you are in the right area. If you stay on the gravel road and it's a weekend...you will see where every one parks...they have made a bigger parking space on the right (the last corner). If you park there and un-load, you then ride up that dirt road and it's a wide dirt road with a few easy ditches...(just take your time) and you will see your choices from there.

There is more forest service roads FSR in Squamish than you could pack fuel for! You are required to have a valid DL (does not have to be a class 6)and carry $200,000 liability insurance to ride a FSR(not required for trails) in B.C. Most riders don't have the insurance because it's almost impossible the find and afford....that being said BCORMA is now selling a platinum trail pass that carries the insurance (as soon as we get more info well do an article). You didn't say where your from?...are you looking to ride in Squamish? If I were you I'd start on the FSR's and when your confident enough try a green circle(easy) single track. In Squamish you can turn (right) off the hi way just after Shannon Falls and drive till you see a little shack to your right and unload there. Take the middle of the three roads and ride till your hearts content. There are many spur roads to explore. Just don't ride back toward the hi way because there is a neighbourhood on the other side of the river that doesn't want to listen to dirt bikes going up and down the road...I know this because I live there! LOL When your ready for more let us know and we'll point you in the right direction...Good luck and have fun!!!

I'm in the same boat - I've been up and down the Mamquam several times now, and have looked up in awe at a SBDA trail near the bottom - I sure hope that was a trials trail and not meant for me and my KDX220.

Where are these green circle trails you speak of? I have the backroads book.

I'd be glad to take you guys for a green circle ride in Squamish. The area I'll take you guys is closed from May 19 to June 19 because of the Test of Metal race so If we could do this after June 19th that would be cool...also one of our new connector trails is not quite finished. Let me know if your in.
